Welcome to the National Coordinating Centre for Research Capacity Development
The Research Capacity Development Programme is one of the family of programmes of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). The Research Capacity Development (RCD) Programme is managed by the National Coordinating Centre for Research Capacity Development (NCCRCD) and funded by the Department of Health.
The RCD Programme makes research training awards to individuals who show the potential to become research leaders in their particular field and whose research is people or patient-focussed and relevant to the NHS.
A new NIHR Fellowship Scheme has been launched as a development of, and replacement for, the previous Personal Awards Scheme (PAS). The new Scheme offers greater flexibility and continuity between different levels of award. Four levels of Fellowship are available on an annual basis. Fellowships are designed primarily to buy out salary costs with a contribution to research costs.
UKCRC/MMC Integrated Academic Training - Academic Clinical Fellowships and Clinical Lectureships
The NCCRCD manages the Academic Clinical Fellowship and Clinical Lectureship phases of the Integrated Academic Pathway. These awards make up part of a package of measures recommended in the Walport Report "Medically and dentally qualified academic staff: Recommendations for training the researchers and educators of the future".
NIHR Clinician Scientist Awards
The NIHR Clinician Scientist Award is open to individuals in medicine and dentistry. The Awards are intended to build a cadre of research-led clinical academics capable of leading research in their discipline. The Awards provide up to five years post-doctoral training.
